Yellow brick road

This time next week, all hell breaks loose, in the form of a mass-migration of ‘geeks-and-gear’ to our new home.

Thus, updates will be pretty sparse, primarily stuff in the form of links that I think are mad-cool. I may get time to drop a full post or two, but there’s no promises, sadly.

Because one simply cannot trust Telstra, our ADSL2+ Internet connection will suddenly cease to function at *some point* this week. And I do say “some point”, because Telstra have a habit of ignoring the date one has requested and will un-jumper the ADSL connection at the exchange whenever the hell they feel like it.

Frequently that means 3-4 days before the actual date requested. Perhaps they will surprise me. I doubt it.

So do not fear if the the tome-of-foo falls silent for a couple of weeks. As the HHGtTG suggests, in large lettering on the front cover — Don’t Panic.

I shall return. Or something.

the emperor has no clothes

So things have been accelerating towards chaos of late.
The property we have been renting relatively peacefully for the last 18 months has been sold out from under our proverbial (and literal) feet and thus “the hunt” has commenced for new digs to hang out in.
This is happening whilst we’re [very] busy at work, whilst I […]

Lets Habari like it’s 1999

There’s a new kid on the block, who is set to shake up the Blog and CMS world in 2007.

Habari, a Swahili word that translates to ‘news’, is both an experiment in MOSS (Massively Open Source Software) and a fresh new look at blogging - think CMS meets WoW. Now, you may be thinking “great, another CMS, just what the world needs - when does the Web 2.0 hurting stop?!”, which, to be honest was my initial thought. But not for long.

Rather than being a fork ((.. such as forking from wordpress, b2, etc)) of an existing blog or CMS software, Habari seeks to take advantage of modern PHP versions and the features they provide - from scratch. But that’s not it’s sole claim-to-fame.

Open platform, open community.

Habari is different - it seeks to be inclusive of those interested in either providing code, able to test, report and perhaps fix bugs, have a flair for design, or indeed pretty much any other assistance that can be provided. The key to this, is the ‘all voices heard’ approach, where many, many voices are encouraged to help improve the product.

PayPerPost aquires Perfomancing metrics

As broken by
Nick Wilson, up-and-coming
Perfomancing has
sold off it’s popular metrics product to
PayPerPost, the
bad boy and sometime
trouble maker of cash-for-comments startups.
Whilst PPP has (in part)
cleaned up their act they continue to be
viewed dimly by many.
Perfomancing will no doubt benefit strongly from the investment and core services such as […]

Babylon 5 Direct-To-DVD Project

You know that feeling where you don’t know if you’re awake, or still dreaming?

‘Babylon 5: The Lost Tales’ is a direct-to-DVD project based on the popular series from the mid-1990s. Lost Tales first DVD, titled ‘Voices of the Dark’ has now begun production. As usual, J. Michael Straczynski and Doug Netter will be running the show with Straczynski directing.

I remember the very first episode of series one. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Babylon 5, despite the slightly corny dialogue and initially ‘low budget’ SFX might, just might turn into something special. And it did. Admit it, how many of you, who watched B5, ever got a ‘chill’ as the build up to the exposure of the ’shadows’ progressed?

100 in 15 - 9rules

9 rules round 5 - ding ding!

.. and so it begins.

Round 5 has started with a bang - 100 Sites In 15 Minutes » 9rules Network Official Blog.

Well updates won’t come this fast, but I thought it was cool to say that we got 100 submissions in 15 minutes.

My submission is in, along with, by now, a good deal many more. I think it’s pretty safe to say this will likely be the largest round in 9rules history.. Good luck to those who have submitted and as I’ve mentioned before, I look forward to discovering a great many more diverse and creative voices through the 9.

Performancing the blog

I received a nice present in the email inbox this morning — no, not more Viagra deals, but something that shows an increasing bend towards blogging as prime real-estate for advertisers.
Performancing Partners offers publishers a new, smart way to get paid for blogging.
Given I also use performancing statistics to help round out the ‘metrics’ […]

AN 80-year-old German motorist has obediently followed his navigation system all the way into a huge pile of sand, abrubtly bringing his trip to an end. The motorist ignored a motorway “closed for construction” sign and crashed his Mercedes into a pile of sand further down the road, police […]
