"More than a tale about a computer maker, this is the story about the age-old battle between mediocrity and excellence" — all the more poignant given my first taste of computing, an Amiga 500.

life on a knife edge

knife knife baby

› Vice Versa Knife block set #.

You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to get one of these.

Of course, usual US paranoia means such sharp humour cannot be exported by mere mortals, for fear that knives could burst forth from their asphyxia bound cardboard-and-duct-tape prison within the luggage compartment, through numerous bulkheads and maim those who happen to be at the controls. So no love for us foreign gits.

Until now.

They’re finally showing up at various online joints here in Australia.. slow boat to china styles. 6 stainless steel knives, lovingly housed in the roughly foot high, humanoid, couture pin-cushion. And it’s red. Very red.

The violence inherent in the whole thing is just awesome. Anyone stepping forth into the kitchen is immediately going to feel right at home. Oh yes.

How creepy is it going to be withdrawing any knives? Not to mention downright crazy stowing them back in their scabbards.

And the really cool part? My other half demands we get one. The perfect house warming gift. How fucking cool is that?!

geek 101 - eBay sniping

Here’s my pet hate. eBay sniping by an automated process.
Part of the eBay experience is the excitement that builds during the auction.. those final last minutes when the heart starts to pump just that little bit harder, the pupils of one’s eyes dilate.. you know the feeling - you’re about to score “stuff” and it’s […]

geek 101 - drying clothes

Today did not start off that well.
Running late as I was, I discovered to my dismay a certain undergarment I had intended to wear, was still yet to fully dry.
This, was a bit of a conundrum, given I had little more than a few minutes to brew a coffee and head out to work.
A desperate […]

iTunes - when five is not enough

So, after rebuilding your system for the nth time you discover that your iTunes Music Store purchased music has already been authorised five times - five, of course, being the magical number Apple has graced us with for DRM authorisation.
At this point you’re wondering “how the smegging hell can Apple do this to me? bastards!”..
All, […]

And he cried out..

It is done.
Dear Brendan, Your new Account with (mt) Media Temple has been successfully activated.

A fork in the XML road and..

I do not visit slashdot.org any more.

Trachea crushing optional..

For the Star Wars geek who has everything, Vader’s
ugly mug - one just has to ask.. why?!

The iHeli

Being as I am the supreme geek and chancing apon a hawkers stall on Sunday, whilst visiting a local “market”,
The Brickworks, I came across a truly “geek” toy.

Yes, a Radio Control Heli. The Syma DragonFly to be precise. This thing is an amazingly small (a little over half a meter, blade tip to tail […]

4 Things.

Yet another meme is doing the rounds, this time I’ve been tagged by Phu.

I’m not a massive fan of memes, as a general rule it has to be said..

However, they do often begin to experience the “chinese whisper” syndrome and can change subtly from one blog to the next, that in itself, can be a fascinating thing to observe, as each ‘internet meme’ recipient stamps their take on the meme. Indeed occasionally so much so, that the meme evolves into something completely different and the cycle begins again.

There-in lies the conundrum — once one has completed a ‘meme’ and dilligently passed it on, the very same meme eveolves into something else and gets passed to you once again.

Thus, here then, are my 4 things in no particular order..
