Blockage

You’re sitting there thinking “What will I write today?” only to realise you are entirely devoid of inspiration.

Isn’t it a trivial process when there is something to be angry about, or sad, or overjoyed? Someone pisses you off, or you read an article that cripples with total joy, you discover a new resource, or some knob-end posts a video to youtube, providing retarded escapist entertainment that you are honour bound to share with all.

The real challenge is continuing to write, in spite of any “writers block”, or fear that the subject matter may trigger indifference, or may even, simply put, suck. We all have that silent moment, when the mind decides that output is not entirely useful and vegetation is the day’s order.

A great writer can use that to spur discovery — a quiet mind is the ideal moment to follow up on that lead you’ve always been meaning to follow, or surf the web in a random fashion, perhaps stumbling on a source of inspiration that would not have otherwise materialised.

The greatest gift we have, is a mind that never, truly, sleeps. Even in those moments when we ‘think’ we aren’t actually thinking. Indeed the creativity that can occur, or discoveries made, seem all the sweeter when they stand alone, as the achievement for the day.

Thus, I would like to thank Duncan, for saying he was struggling to find inspiration, because he gave this writer the impetus to explore some recent discoveries, enjoy some fresh reading and, ultimately, reminded me that I actually wanted to write this entry.
