New version 1.1 is now out! Previously sig2feed, RSS Signature is now 2.1.x (and 2.2.x) compatible.

This is the first plugin I’ve released, ever — so go easy. :)

This plugin is based on Add Sig by Aleister.

What is RSS Signature

sig2feed wordpress plugin 2.0.xThat’s a great question. Sig2feed’s primary goal is to provide a simple administration interface to allow the addition of a custom tagline, signature or © copyright message to the wordpress generated rss feeds. You can add any kind of message, tag, or even images — as long as it can be displayed in an RSS feed, it’s up to you. Cool huh?

Read on for an overview (recommended), skip to the download if you’re a plugin-totating old-timer or feel free to leave feedback in the official post.

So how does it work?

Simply download the plugin, unzip in to your plugins/ directory, activate and navigate to Manage –» RSS Signature.

I’ve provided a basic default signature — edit to taste:

sig2feed update signature

You’ll see a number of built in %options% that can be used, however you can add pretty much anything you like. I current use it to direct those who may be reading the feed via a non-aggregated source1 back to me.

Once you’re happy with the changes, toggle the Display in feeds? on and hit update options.

sig2feed enable and update

That’s it — the plugin will now add your customised tagline, quote, © copyright, image link, or whatever else you wish to use to the bottom of each syndicated entry.

FAQ

  • Q: so why did you create this plugin?
  • A: while there are a few ‘add to post’ signature plugins, there was nothing specific to RSS feeds, which is what I particularily wanted to target. Sploggers are constantly pinching content and selling it as their own — I’m simply using the plugin to set the record straight, as it were.
  • Q: will this break my wordpress install?!
  • A: no.. well, at least it shouldn’t. Do make sure your custom text is valid html and you shouldn’t have a problem.
  • Q: can I pick which posts have the tag? new!
  • A: yes, you sure can. simply add <!– sig2feed –> where you wish sig2feed to place your custom tag.
  • Q: can I get you to fix xxx and yyy problems?
  • A: i’ll certainly give it a shot.. please do leave a comment in the official entry
