"Apple said today that a firmware update to the iPhone due to be released later this week "will likely result" in SIM-unlocked iPhones turning into very expensive bricks." — the cat has caught the mouse this week, no word yet on mouse striking back.

New website launched - care of the spectacular talents of Mr Greg Storey.

"The best thing that could happen to Apple this year would be for Microsoft’s Zune 2.0 to be a kick-ass product, both technologically and in terms of being designed to make customers happy, not entertainment conglomerates. Apple needs competition." — given recent activity, actual competition would keep Apple engaged and honest; right now they have the mobile phone and media player markets sewn up - complacency breeds contempt.

"The point of any company should be to make customers want to give it money, NOT to get money from customers. It’s a subtle distinction that is the difference between good and evil."

iPod Touch (Non) Shipment

Glenn Wolsey notes that he is
frustrated over iPod Touch (Non) Shipment:
I believe Apple should have started shipping the iPod touch to those who pre-ordered online either before, or alongside those who can now walk into an Apple store and pick one up on impulse.
Apple’s delays in delivering new-launch product via the online stores is […]

"To me, designing something which thousands or millions may see is not nearly as great of a challenge and honor as designing something that one person will be deeply impacted by."

"The RIAA’s major members — Universal, Warner, Sony BMG, and EMI — are trying to put indie webcasters out of business. They’re not working to protect artists. They’re working to protect their monopoly, and now they’re lying to do it."

tumblr, and dinna spare the whip, avast! I’m not 100% committed yet, and […]

"The enhanced code locks the iTunes database to one specific iPod and also prevents any modifications to it." — the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away; whilst vendor lock-in is hardly new, it does give Apple’s message on DRM free music a hollow ring.

Mojo moment

update: the sponsorship spots are now published on the
tumblr log as well - twice the value.
I presently have four
sponsorship spots available, for those interested in some advertising that goes beyond a simple text link or the proverbial (ugly) banner.
Each spot is custom tailored to fit with the site design, yet be vibrant enough […]

"There’s no reason we can’t have both a great surfing experience on an iPhone as well as one on assistive technologies. I’m just asking for more balance." — whilst it has revolutionised development and the way web apps are built, it shouldn’t be at the expense of standards or accessibility - a little balance isn’t a crazy thing to ask for.
