So after three weeks, things are finally settling down at work and I have a little more time to think.
So what have I been doing over the last three weeks? Why, that’s so kind of you to ask! :)
Firstly, you might want to check out google maps to see
where in the world Carmen Sandiego Brendan is.
Take a note of where Whyalla and Mt Gambier are - then take a note of the scale. Better still, here’s a grab from
whereis.com.au. I’ve highlighted some of the stop-over locations during deployment work.
It’s incredibly liberating to not only love the job I now have, but also be able to break free of the chains that bind me to a desk and go do the things I love doing. Namely working with some really cool server stuff and with people, both in the IT crowd, as well as the customer, to meet a common goal.
So sometimes I have to drive 500 kilometers or more to an outlying regional center to do my ‘professional geek’ thing?! .. cool! .. that rocks as I get a little sight-seeing in whilst I’m at it. So far I have visited more of South Australia in three weeks, than I have in the last five years of residency.
The work environment is a massive change from the previous job. People are actually supportive and to drop me in the deep end from day two shows a lot of faith in my abilities — which makes the positive results and feedback I get all the more rewarding. And they let me play with cool stuff.. oooh.. shiny.
I love being a geek — it’s a lifestyle, not just a job. :)
