booking a face

After reading Tyme’s recent questions and adventures it occurred to me that having some kind of easily accessible social identity1 was something worth doing.

facebook entry

Being somewhat of an ‘online community’ virgin I had no idea what to expect given my innate tendency to avoid ’social’ environments2.

I was pleasantly surprised — facebook blends the creation of a social persona with an XFN style community to build a simple yet effective social network.

In no time I had a profile constructed and began to take the first few steps to explore the surroundings.

If you have a facebook account, why not say hello.

I really don’t cope well at social events — I believe I am missing the “seek friends and congregate gene

I think I’m missing that one too.. I dread social occassions more than almost anything else. In fact, it’s kind of sad, but even something as minimally social as talking on the telephone causes massive anxiety. Even online, most of my comments go unsubmitted, and I tend to avoid the social aspects of social software. Go figure. Even in the MMOs that I play, I’d rather solo or play with people I already know than try to join a guild or meet new people.

So um.. yeah, that was a long-winded way of saying that I think I feel your pain. Good luck with the facebook thing. :)

    Thanks jena.

Yes, this whole socialising thing is a bit new.. Please do consider leaving comments - part of why I continue to blog is that I enjoy the two-way discussions that can occur as a result (doubly so if respondents don’t agree with my take on the universe).

One can learn so much more about any given situation, or alternative viewpoints as a result.
