Sneak peek - 2.0 will have red

sneak peek

If you’ve had a wander around smackfoo earlier today, or spotted my mischievous comments elsewhere, you may have been noticed my gravatar has changed. I have now officially begun work on my first fully self-coded design. The image to the left is a hint of the new logo I am working on, along with some of the graphic elements.. and yes, there may just be a little red.

I had always planned for smackfoo to sport a brand new design - however as part of the move I stuck with and re-interpreted the foliage theme while bedding down the move to reduce the amount of change I had to deal with.

Simultaneous launch of a whole new theme with a server move really struck me as the worst kind of odds to bet against.

As (mt) media temple is also working on the release of a new shared server platform1 I hope to time the new design with the 6.0 roll out.

I really need PHP 5 to take advantage of some cool new code ideas and the upgraded mysql will help round out the mix with improved performance. For the time being the design is being kept behind closed doors2 - sorry, no sandbox and no live re-design.

The reason is simple - as mentioned earlier, it’s become common place for designs to be ripped off and I want to at least get smackfoo 2.0 out the door and online before some pimply angsty teenager fires up curl and steals the design claiming as their own3.

I have no fucking idea how this will play out, but damn it, it’s all on.

  1. if you’re in the market for a new host, I strongly recommend you check it out ()
  2. I’ll sneak out a few hints on occasion tho. ;) ()
  3. if there is sufficient demand I might release a basic version of the design for folks to score some smackfoo love ()

Good luck to you on your project to code from the ground up. I have to ask, would you be interested in rolling the two column version of Foliage up for me to clean and distribute, with credit of course, alongside the original Foliage? Drop me a line, you’ve worked your magic with this one.

    Sure.

I’ll sort out some of the remainder messy code & package something up for you..
