It’s out. The new Apple Mac Mini now sports either an Intel powered 1.5ghz Core Solo, or the beefier 1.6ghz Duo processor. That is officially the first time a dual processor architecture has been shoe-horned into the mini.
The base model now bundles a 60gb hdd, as well as 512mb ram - a welcome improvement given the advances (and thirst) in the recent OS X 10.4.x builds, with the Duo powered system gaining an additional 20gb storage (80gb all up) as well.
WiFi and Bluetooth are now standard across both models - finally someone at Cupertino is listening! The price is a little higher in comparison to the orginal G4 mini’s, however it represents a realistic and legal alternative to running OS X on a ‘beige’ box.

The new mac mini looks awesome, but do we really need to pay $100 for a leather ipod case without windows for the screen or touch wheel? o(

.. new mac mini rocks (despite calls from the PC community that it has shit video, it’s actually better than the original) although I can’t see me paying $100 for a leather iPod case.
Note I say that it’s the PC fraternity knocking the onboard video, not the Mac community. The new chipset handles CI and Quartz Extreme and will handle many tasks without complaint. So it’s not a kick-ass Radeon, but then it’s not massively expensive, either.
The mini has always been about a “crossover” product for Apple - something relatively cheap to win over the PC stalwart who doesn’t want to fork out thousands on a PowerMac. It’s never been any form of convergence device, or gamers system, so why folks are pissed it’s not either [yet] only after it’s second ‘version’ and a power plant change, is beyond me.
Again, I get the feeling that Steve has so often had big news at such events, that folks now expect the earth to move, rather than be surprised by it. :)
