Putting the ‘i’ in stupid.

Podz reminds us that licensing hyper-links is somewhat stupid. Good work Evrsoft.

Evrsoft Pty Ltd, will grant to you a personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to hyperlink (”Link”) your Internet Web site to Evrsoft’s Internet Web site, and/or use Evrsoft’s Web Link Logo (”Link Logo”) as part of your Internet Web site subject to the following terms and conditions:

Aww gee, my very own hyper-link licence, for my own website just so I can link to yours? I feel so special.

You must accept all terms and conditions in this Agreement. To indicate your acceptance, you will be required to send us an email issuing your acceptance to this Agreement.

I see. I have to accept all conditions I haven’t read yet and email you said acceptance. How about I link to you anyway and if that’s not acceptable you can email me for the “de-link licence”, that you will be required to accept prior to reading.

You may only use the licensed Link Logo. No other Evrsoft logo, obtained from Evrsoft’s WWW page or any other Evrsoft or non-Evrsoft source, may be used.

Hang on - I can use the licensed logo, except any other logo or the actual licensed logo given it’s “from Evrsoft’s WWW page”.
Assuming I manage to actually get a genuine licensed logo, both your site logo and the licensed logo are fucking identical how the hell can I be certain I have the licence logo and not the “other” logo?

You may not alter the appearance of the Link Logo. The Link Logo must stand by itself and must include a minimum amount of 25 pixels of empty space around it so as to avoid unintended associations with any other objects including, but not limited to, type, photography, borders, and edges.

“..but not limited to, type, photography, borders, and edges.” Well, that’s a bit fucking difficult isn’t it. You’re ruling out every form of mark-up known to man.

You may not use the name “Evrsoft, the Link, and/or the Link Logo in any manner that implies Evrsoft sponsorship or endorsement of your products

I hereby swear that I do not endorse the above mentioned in any way, shape, or form. Oh yes, I’m sure preceding remarks like that will really drive web traffic for you.

Evrsoft reserves the right to review your use of the name “Evrsoft, the Link, and/or the Link Logo, and you agree to provide Evrsoft unrestricted access to your site to review your use of the name “Evrsoft….

You want what? So how rusty is your shell and VI knowledge?

Evrsoft may at any time, and in its sole business judgement and/or discretion, require you to discontinue your use of the name “Evrsoft”, the Link, and/or the Link Logo.

So after all the effort of people licensing the link - you reserve the right to remove your link off my site. Aww, now see that’s just stupid. The whole licence makes no sense — a classic example of why legally challenged people should be banned from computer usage.
