intelligence test

Oh noes.. seems my little rant has had an effect - I am now receiving spam suggesting I need an IQ over 120 to read it. Wow - they’ve got me now. How can I ignore such dastardly, sneaky methods to sell me viagra, illegal software and pr0n.

I strongly believe their should be regulation of the “spam” market.

Those who do not poses an IQ above 130 should not be permitted to act as spam couriers and merchants. I speak directly of the current “get firefox” spam trick.. which uses the concept of trying to sneak spam onto blogs, using the get firefox or spread firefox website as the website of origin.

Just how stupid do spammers think your average blogger is?! Ok, granted the odd blogger got caught out by the ’scam’ and thus had a “darwin moment” themselves, but seriously - do spammers believe bloggers will just mindlessly accept any comment?

The answer at this site, is a resounding no.

But still they come, performing their mindless Lemming walk against the blog’s spam fortifications, only to be stopped, throttled and flicked unceremoniously over the cliff. Of course the rel=nofollow href tag helps combat such spam runs wonderfully - if I just relied on that (as was suggested way back when) then there would be more spam than comment - twisted and evil. Oh, and I’d be bereft of any site-to-site linkage. Lovely.

Kind reader - if your blog uses rel=nofollow, please do the blog-verse a favour and remove it - there are a number of wordpress plugins that do just that. You will be doing the inkernet and your fellow commenter a favour.

So, for the potential spammer out there - find another destination for you wares. Right here, no, means no.

  1. If Else

If this is all we have to deal with, we should be happy:-)

One thing I should urge everyone to do is to remove spam comments instantly, regardless of how old the blog entry is. Unfortunately, I’ve increasingly noticed that a lot of people are allowing spam comments to stay on. A little bit of time taking care of things helps everyone out.

“A little bit of time taking care of things helps everyone out.”

Indeed it does. Which is what folk should have been doing rather than embrace rel=nofollow like matt did for WP.

Keeping a blog spam-free is not a complex task now, plenty of good spam plugins that keep 99.9% of it at bay - the rest can be removed easily enough.
